Unsearch summarises news, regulations and reading for the sectors and areas of expertise you choose. It shows no ads and does not track you; it does not request access to your location, camera, microphone or contacts.
Account and access
The first name, last name and email address you give when you create an account are stored on the server; the email address is used only for sign-in and account operations and is never shared with third parties. Your password is never stored in plain text; only a one-way cryptographic hash (scrypt) is kept. Only a hash of your session key is stored as well; the mobile session key stays in the iPhone's secure keychain. Signing out closes the session on the server. The language and location you choose in the app are stored with your account so that the app and your news feed appear in that language.
Sign in with Google
When you use “Continue with Google”, the account ID, email address and name that Google verifies are used to create your Unsearch account or sign you in. Your Google password is never sent to Unsearch, and no access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts is requested. The server verifies the identity token; it does not store this token, the Google access token or a refresh token. The Google account ID stays linked to your account and is deleted when you delete your Unsearch account. To link an existing Unsearch account with the same email address for the first time, your current Unsearch password is checked. Anything you do on Google's sign-in screen is also subject to Google's privacy policy.
Sign in with Apple
With “Continue with Apple”, the account ID Apple verifies and the email address you choose to share are used to create your account or sign you in. “Hide My Email” is supported; Apple's relay address is then used. The name Apple provides on first sign-in is kept in your profile; if it is not shared, sign-in still works. Your Apple password is never sent to Unsearch. The refresh token needed to check that the Apple link is still valid, and to revoke it when your account is deleted, is stored encrypted on the server. The encryption key is kept separately from the database. When you delete your account your profile and sessions are deleted; if Apple is temporarily unreachable, only the encrypted token needed to revoke the link is held until the revocation completes, and is then deleted. Anything you do on Apple's sign-in screen is also subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Content feedback
Optional likes, dislikes and comments are stored on the server together with the content ID and your account. Feedback from the administrator account is reviewed to improve how content is selected and written. When you delete your account, your feedback records are deleted too.
Rating content
When you rate a piece of content and save it, your choice, your optional comment and the related content details are kept on the server, linked to your account. You can update your rating; earlier versions are kept in the change history. Feedback is never shown to other users. It may be used for the app owner's authorised editorial review. When your account is deleted, your feedback and its change history are deleted too.
Data kept on your device
Saved stories, your notes, your watch list and the latest bulletin are kept on your device. These personal lists are not sent to the server. If you choose to share the bulletin summary or PDF, the content is passed to the app you pick through the iOS share sheet.
Optional news notifications
If you allow notifications, a random device installation ID, an Expo push address and the areas of expertise you chose are stored on the server so that relevant new stories can be announced. Your reading history, saved stories and session key are never sent to Expo. Notifications are delivered through the Expo Push Service and Apple's APNs. The notification text contains the headline of the newest story and may appear on the lock screen; the story itself opens in the app only after your session is verified. You can turn notifications off in the app's settings. When you delete your access, the notification registration is deleted too.
Infrastructure and news
When you connect, the server and the hosting provider may process network data such as your IP address; this data is used for access security and to run the service. How long it is kept depends on the provider's security and logging settings. If you open a news link, the publisher's website opens and that site's privacy policy applies. If the source page has an image, the server takes the image address from that page; the app loads the small preview directly from the publisher's server, so your device connects to the publisher's server. Stories are prepared from publicly available sources by the app owner's scheduled ChatGPT task; the server does not call a separate AI API. Account details and personal lists are never sent to the news preparation task.
Deletion and contact
“Delete access” in Settings deletes your account (first and last name, email, password hash and sessions) from the server, and your session key, saved stories and notes from the device. Deletion needs an internet connection. The app owner can also close an account. For support and data requests, write to the address below.
